Solfeto is an ear training app for iPhone. This page says what it keeps about you, where, why, and how to remove it. It is written to be read, so it is short, and it is meant to be complete.

Solfeto is published by Hubertus Putu Widya Primanta Nugraha, in Indonesia, who decides how this data is used and is the one to write to: [email protected].

The short version

What is kept, and why

Your account. When you sign in, the sign in service keeps an id for your account. If you sign in with an email address, it keeps the address, to sign you in and to send a password reset when you ask for one. If you sign in with Google, Google hands over the address, the name and the picture on that Google account. Solfeto does not show them, read them or use them, but the sign in service holds them, so they are named here. If you sign in with Apple, Solfeto asks Apple for no name and no address, and is given only an id.

Your training. A copy of your progress is saved under your account after each session: every tone you were played and what you answered, how long each answer took, your sessions and scores, your streak, your hearts and gems, and your settings, among them the reminder time and your time zone. Only you can read it. It exists so that your progress survives a lost or replaced phone, and for no other reason.

The league, if you turn it on. It is off until you switch it on and choose a handle. From then on, other signed in learners can see your handle and your points for the week. With them travels an account id, which is a string of letters and digits that says nothing about you. Your name and your email address are never shown.

Reports. If you report another player’s handle, the report holds that handle and the week, and is filed under the account it is about. It does not say who sent it.

Purchases. The subscription is bought through Apple. Apple tells the app, by way of a service called RevenueCat, whether it is active, which plan it is and when it renews. Solfeto never sees your card or your Apple account’s details.

How the app is used. When this is switched on, the app sends short records of what happened in it: that a session was finished and how it scored, that the paywall was seen, that a pitch joined your set. They are filed under an id the app makes up for itself, not under your name or your address, and they are used to see where the app is hard to use. You can switch this off at any time: Settings, then Help, privacy and terms.

When something breaks. When this is switched on, a crash, or a failure the app caught, is reported with the model of phone, the version of iOS and of the app, and the same made up id. It is used to fix the fault.

Updates. The app asks its update service whether a newer version of itself exists, and says which version it is. That request carries an id for the installation.

Every service on the internet also sees the address your phone connects from. Solfeto does not use it to work out where you are.

Who holds it

Solfeto has no servers of its own beyond one small function, described below. The data above is held for it by:

Each of them handles it on Solfeto’s instructions and for the purposes above. None is allowed to use it for its own advertising.

Deleting it

In the app: Settings, then Delete account at the foot of the list. That removes the saved copy of your training, your league entry and the account itself. If you signed in with Apple, Apple is told as well, so Solfeto leaves the list of apps on your Apple account. That is the one thing the small function is for, and it keeps nothing.

What is on your phone stays on your phone until you remove the app.

Records of how the app was used and of crashes are filed under the made up id, not under your account, so deleting the account does not find them. Write to [email protected] and they will be removed as well. A backup file from Settings, attached to the message, is the quickest way: the id is in it.

How long it is kept

Your account and the saved copy: until you delete them. Crash reports: no longer than ninety days. Records of how the app is used: up to seven years, which is how long the service that holds them keeps what it is sent, and sooner if you ask. Purchase records: for as long as tax and consumer law require.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and object to the records of how the app is used, which the switch in Settings does at once. Settings, Backup file, gives you a full copy of your training as a file at any time, without asking anyone. For anything else, write to [email protected].

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the law also names the reasons data may be held. Your account, your saved training and your purchase are held because the app cannot do what you asked of it without them. The records of how the app is used, and crash reports, are held because there is a real interest in fixing and improving the app, and they are kept to the least that serves it. You may complain to your data protection authority at any time.

Children

Solfeto is not made for children under 13 and does not knowingly keep anything about them. If you believe a child has made an account, write to [email protected] and it will be removed.
